A new reasoning layer turns market data into a call, with the evidence attached

SINGAPORE, SINGAPORE, September 17, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Sparta today announced the launch of Leonidas AI, a decision-making engine built for oil and commodity trading desks. Leonidas runs on Sparta's own market data, live prices, arb economics, news, and seasonality, and synthesises those inputs into a trade call with the reasoning behind it, in real time.

Trading desks have more market data available to them than ever before, across pricing feeds, news, and research. The challenge is turning that volume of information into a coherent market view quickly enough to act on it. Traders are still spending significant time stitching together curves, arbs, news and other inputs before they can make the call.

Leonidas is built to close that gap. It interprets, weighs, and synthesises curves, arbs, news, and seasonality continuously, on Sparta's own validated data, and hands a desk a call it can trust and pressure-test.

The release introduces dedicated agents for each vertical, alongside calls, briefings, market views, research tools and alerts built around a desk’s own coverage.

" The desk that used to win was the one with more information. The desk that wins now is the one that resolves information into a call faster than the desk next to it. Leonidas is the market's first AI research agent. It works proactively, twenty-four hours a day, searching for the opportunities a desk doesn't have time to chase by hand: interpreting, weighing, and synthesising curves, arbs, news, and seasonality into one read. Every minute spent stitching that picture together manually is a minute not spent on the call itself. Leonidas does that work on Sparta's own validated data, and shows its reasoning at every step, so a desk can trust a call and still pressure-test it." — Felipe Elink Schuurman, Chief Executive Officer, Sparta

What's new in Sparta
Calls. The call, plus the reasoning to pressure-test it. Every call is built from arb economics, news, seasonality, and fundamentals, weighted together and run through Leonidas's rulebook. When the picture changes, Leonidas delivers a new call with the full reasoning behind it.

Briefings. A desk's market, summed up every market open. Leonidas synthesises a desk's coverage into one actionable read, and updates it with reasoning if the picture shifts during the day.

Dedicated agents. Each market has its own drivers, spreads and structural quirks. On a specific market question, Leonidas hands over to the dedicated agent built for that vertical, specialised in exactly what that desk trades.

Market views. A desk's books, curves, and arbs, in its own view. Leonidas monitors every curve in a desk's coverage against its own rolling baseline, flagging abnormal moves the moment they happen and matching them to the driver behind them. Desks choose what's on it and set their own thresholds.

Research. An answer a desk can test. Traders can ask about a curve, a spread, a route, or a what-if on positioning, and push back on any layer, arb economics, news weighting, seasonal base rate, until the conviction holds up.

Alerts. Leonidas monitors continuously, so a desk never misses when a window opens. A trader sets a threshold once, a price level or a spread crossing a line, and Leonidas fires the moment it's crossed, with the reason attached.

Personalisation. Leonidas learns a desk's coverage, regions, and thresholds from day one, and sharpens to how that desk actually trades the longer it's in use.

What this means for oil trading desks:

- Faster calls: the read is ready before the window closes.

- Earlier arbs: flagged the moment they open.

- More conviction: every call comes with the evidence behind it.

- Less noise: nothing off-book gets in the way.

Every desk runs on a tenant/landlord architecture, keeping each organisation's data and conversations isolated. No desk's book informs another desk's read.

Leonidas is available now through Sparta's Early Adopter Program, giving a limited number of desks direct access and a direct line into what gets built next.
