Boro’ Foundry Eliminates Landfill Sand Waste and Cuts Gas Consumption by 40% in Major Operational Upgrade

100% of waste foundry sand diverted from landfill following a new partnership with Booth Ventures Waste Ltd.

STOURBRIDGE, WEST MIDLANDS, UNITED KINGDOM, September 21, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Boro’ Foundry, a fourth-generation family business based in the West Midlands, has announced a series of major operational investments that have completely eliminated its sand waste to landfill and significantly reduced its energy consumption.

A central achievement of the sustainability programme is a new arrangement with Booth Ventures Waste Ltd, established in August 2026, which directs remaining waste foundry sand to local quarry restoration at Sandown Quarry in Walsall. Combined with existing routes that repurpose used sand for tarmac production, 100% of Boro’ Foundry’s annual waste sand is now diverted from landfill.

Parallel to the waste diversion project, Boro’ Foundry has modernised its thermal efficiency and air extraction systems:

• 40% Reduction in Gas Usage: The installation of a permanent PLC-controlled ladle preheating system cut gas consumption by approximately 40% during a nine-month measurement period.

• Heating Efficiency: The automated burner brings ladles to precise temperatures in roughly 20 minutes - down from two to three hours under previous manual operations - reducing the risk of casting defects and remakes.

• Compliant Exhaust Extraction: A new Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) system serving the sand hopper was installed in June 2026, bringing extraction equipment up to current compliance standards while improving ongoing maintenance.
